Introducing the Arm Chair Personal Trainer

People fear to grow old as most of the older guys and gals are going to be left alone. They must know how to leave alone because most of the new generation today did not want to take care of their grandparents. For someone getting older, this is their biggest concern since they know that no one will take care of them when the time comes. They need to be stronger to take care of themselves as they grow older. That is the reason why researchers were working on ways for elder people to get a good workout. In fact, there is already a technology that might suit their needs and is set to be presented by the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS in Erlangen (Germany) at the CeBIT trade fair in Hanover, which will take place from March 5-9, 2013 (Hall 9, stand E08). The armchair of the future as it will motivate elder people to be fit and healthy. The GEWOS (Gesund wohnen mit Stil) translated to “Healthy Living in Style”, is the armchair of the future.

When you see the GEWOS, you will think that it is just an ordinary arm chair, but if you look closely then you will notice the big difference. There is a microsystem technology built into the seat cushions, backrest and armrest that continually measures the state of health of the seated person. GEWOS provides measurement for the body and determines how to sit correctly.

Sven Feilner of the Image Processing and Medical Technology Department at IIS says the GEWOS can take the pulse rate, blood oxygen saturation, blood pressure or weight over a certain period of time. It then sends the gathered data to a virtual health assistant, who uses the build and exercise program custom made for the user of GEWOS.
