Helicobacter Pylori (H Pylori) looks like a bacteria that shape like a spiral and can be found in the stomach and small intestine.

Studies have proven that its spiral shaped appearance enables it to easily drill into the lining of our stomach and duodenum (small intestine).

When H Pylori tries to drill itself to the gut lining, you will feel irritation, swelling and inflammation. You can think of it like tiny thorns stuck in your skin. The irritation and inflammation can cause two relatively common conditions: gastritis and duodenitis.

Once the inflammation and irritation harms the stomach lining, it set off chain reactions that may lead to weight gain. Here are 3 beliefs how can this happen:

Explanation about Weight Gain #1.

Inflammation takes place whenever the adrenal glands produce “fire-fighting” hormones, or more popularly known as cortisol. Those with high levels of cortisol in people also have H pylori because the inflammation is the reason why several cortisol gets released.

As the cortisol gets too high, the fat gets stored around the tummy and in “spare tyres” around the waist.

If the inflammation can’t be resolved, the adrenal glands gets drained of its energy and weakened. That is the time wherein the body can’t produce enough cortisol. The body can’t do its job properly now, therefore, it can’t burn body fat anymore.

Explanation about Weight Gain #2.

H Pylori is the reason why the stomach produces less acid that it usually does. This happens because the parietal cells, which produce the acid gets damaged.

And when there are no acid to break down the food. The nutrients in the food can’t be absorbed by the body, which often lead to weight gain.

Explanation about Weight Gain # 3.

Some scientists believe that H Pylori infection can also affect thyroid problems. They figure out that the same antibodies that protect our system can be manipulated to attack the thyroid gland, and in doing so causes some delays on its function.

Thyroid glands are essential for optimizing the metabolism. Depending on how the thyroid glands function, it can either cause weight gain or weight loss.
